Tanning Beds and Male Fertility
from:The seventies brought us great music, Afro puff and an industry that was a result of a medical research- the tanning beds.
When German Wolff conceptualized indoor tanning beds, which use UV lights, he had in mind only of its potentials in curing rickets, poor bone density and for seeking ways by which tanning may benefit athletes. However, during those times, he did not think of it as an invention that would later hit some thing rather big.
Although tanning beds were first created to induce benefits and healing, the present-day use of the item, especially in issues pertaining to male fertility and pregnancy, is becoming more questionable. There are anomalies that are constantly rising into scene that create unrest among medical circles.
In the earlier years, the medical community only questions over heating the mother and the child when it comes to the use of tanning beds. Afterwhich, the first assertion was disproved and advised that only those pregnant women who are undergoing the first trimester has the advantage in using the machine. However, in the later years, health officials are becoming more cautious with the effects of tanning beds during pregnancy. They even discourage pregnant moms from taking tanning bed sessions.
Meanwhile, issues don’t only relate to women. Male fertility is also said to be affected when there is too much heat penetrating the male body. The effects are short-lived though.
Usually, heat is something that must be avoided to lessen the chance of becoming infertile. It is because excessive heat in the testicles may result to poor sperm production.
While heat may be caused by tight clothing, exposure to tanning bed lights may induce too much heat that may cause undesired damage on the formation of the sperm. Undergoing a tanning bed session would mean that your body heat would rise on an abnormal level.
Lets say that your testicles do not respond negatively to the extreme heat (which in most cases, impossible), do you think you can escape the internal body heat that will run from one portion of your body to another? No. Therefore, your sperm production is still at great risk. Body temperature during tanning bed session will always be higher than 102 F, which can cause immediate malformation in the sperm cells. So why take the gamble?
You see, authorities suggest that tanning has far greater take-aways than the benefits. Avoidance is the best recourse. But if you really are itching for that healthy suntan glow, you can always use a bottle of spray, lotion and creams to tan your skin. Sunless tanning techniques are always consistent in displaying no bad effects on your fertility. Therefore, you can avail the best of both worlds.
Its true, it always makes someone more attractive when he is wearing a tanned skin. But when fashion jeopardizes your ability to help your partner conceive, then think again. You might be exchanging your lifetime happiness for something that will only cause you temporary satisfaction.
In the end, no one should really compromise one’s health for the unknown. After all, you want your skin tanned to project health. But once the device that induces “healthfulness” no longer serve that purpose, it would be best to find other alternatives, which are much healthier and safer to use.
