Clomid on Female and Male Infertility
from:Each parent hopes to share with their children all the good things in life; to nourish their offspring with all their needs and guide the child in his walk through life. However, if that hope is unachievable without seeking medical intervention, it is doubtless that the couple would suffer initially.
Assisted reproduction treatment is becoming the norm for infertile couples. Before, all the couple can do is to wait that someday they may be granted a gift that would be beyond all that is material – an offspring.
The initial step to any assisted reproductive treatment is to induce the ovaries to produce more eggs than usual, this is especially true with in vitro fertilization. The primary drug they come in contact with is the Clomid, which is also known for other names such as Serophene, Clomiphene citrate and CC. Aside from facilitating the ovaries to release numerous eggs at once Clomid is used in identifying ovulatory disorders as well. (Note: The normal production of eggs on a normal basis would be one egg per month).
Clomid, being a multifunctional drug, is also works in individuals with luteal phase defect. It is also very effective in diagnosing ovarian reserve to help identify a female’s capability to produce eggs.
Because Clomid is naturally potent, it has the function to react on all body tissues that contain estrogen. Such tissues include the pituitary, hypothalamus, vagina, ovary, endometrium and the cervix. In effect, Clomid alters the way by which the four hormones (GnRH, estradiol, FSH, and LH) that are necessary in ovulation work.
While there is no complete data that would provide the exact fashion by which Clomid works, it is a common understanding that it tries to make the body interpret that the estrogen level is low. Therefore, the resultant is a connected reaction. The hypothalamus, an area of the brain, which is responsible for emotions, will release a higher level of Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH). This in return would send a signal to the pituitary gland to produce and release more Luteneizing Hormone and Follicle Stimulating Hormone. In the end, an egg cell (or several egg cells) will be created.
Basically, Clomid is taken orally instead of being injected which is a more common practice in the majority of ovulation-inducing drugs.
In most cases, Clomid is taken five days before the expected menstruation. Yet the duration would still be dependent on the guidelines as presented by your assisted reproduction facility. However, in general cases the basis for the menstrual cycle is not the spotting, but the actual bleeding itself. Your physician may recommend you to take a tablet a day. Nevertheless, if the body did not respond well to this level of medication, the doctor may suggest a higher dosage.
Once the body starts to react, the expected pregnancy would materialize in the first six cycles. Although Clomid will help raise your chance of ovulation by 85%, only half of that percentage would develop into a successful pregnancy. If nothing occurred within those six cycles, authorities would recommend you to more high-tech procedures.
During the recent years however, when technology has become more sophisticated, Clomid became useful to heighten male fertility. The principle in here is to refine the quality of the semen. According to some sources, this project works. Yet, many disprove the potential effects of using Clomid in relation to male fertility.
