Pregnancy Test after IVF and the Toils of Getting Pregnant
from:The ultimate dream of the majority (if not all!) of infertile parents is to conceive an offspring, even just a child. This hope spars them to continue searching for options, treatments and surgeries. But what if the hope suddenly becomes a reality?
How would one find out if she were pregnant?
In the usual cases, doctors often advice to wait for indications that will suggest the absence of monthly period. Once you missed your period, it is a good indication that you are actually pregnant. He will ask you to take treatments prior to, during or after your pregnancy test. Afterwhich, he will evaluate your pregnancy.
For most cases, the positive result of the pregnancy test is overwhelming, even emotional at times. It is hard to believe that after years of trial and thousands of dollars spent, you are actually conceiving a child. Infertility now belongs to distant memories. It's over, yes? No.
You will soon realize that you need not a positive pregnancy result but a baby. There still lay a number of uncertainties and the thought that something will go wrong still possesses a threat. A grave threat. So it is vital that extreme care and monitoring is conducted.
The documentation of pregnancy must be facilitated as early as possible. This will ensure the potential problems can be readily addressed and specific needs are given due importance. One of the most sensitive of tests is the blood examination to find indications of the HCG or beta human chorionic gonadotropin. HCG is the component that the embryo releases. The sole signal that pregnancy has actually realized.
The sad truth though is that miscarriage occurs in a frequency of ten to twenty percent in all pregnancies. There are no ways to prevent miscarriages. All the patients and the doctors can do is to wait. This period of waiting may be shattering. Nonetheless, you now have a chance of giving life to a child.
In case of miscarriage, the tissue of the embryo or fetus must be sent for examination and documentation. This period may feel like hell but one must learn to cope with the event. Nature selects only the perfect embryo to live and no amount of medical intervention can result to pregnancy if nature doesn't want that to be so. Obsession to details won't help either. The unexpected happens and there are no perfect guarantees that our hopes will be fulfilled.
It is normal that a person blames herself because of the miscarriage. "It must have been something that I did or did not do!" Actually it is not. Take into consideration the truth that 70% of all miscarriages happen because of chromosomal abnormality during conception. That is something that you have no control of.
No one will ever know how that would happen. It just do. This is why doctors don't usually examine you after a miscarriage. There is too little chance of finding indications. The good thing though is, you have around 80% or more chance that your next pregnancy would be a success.
The only option that you will have is to undergo the same in vitro process again, which on most cases is very taxing (emotionally and financially). It is normal to hesitate and even get scared if you've had a previous miscarriage. It is like starting from scratch. The anxiety of getting the chance of becoming pregnant again or if you do get pregnant will you ever produce a child? But you must always be hopeful. If the nature wants you to conceive then you might as well do your part in helping yourself beget a baby. Though the road may be hard.
